Prof. Charles D Raab
Expert on Privacy & Data Protection in the Global Information Age
Prof. Charles Raab is Professor of Government in the School of Social and Political Studies at the University of Edinburgh. He is currently engaged in further writing for publication in the fields of privacy theory and regulatory practice, surveillance, personal identity, and related topics. He is a member of the editorial or advisory boards of nine journals in the fields of information policy and public policy, and on the advisory boards of several research projects.

Charles Raab was Professor of Government (1999-2007) and served as a member of staff at the University of Edinburgh since 1964. He has engaged in advisory and consultancy work for UK and Scottish government departments, the Office of the Information Commissioner, the European Commission, the New Zealand Law Commission, Liberty, and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Resarch (NWO). He was the Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Select Committee on the Constitution for their inquiry, Surveillance: Citizens and the State, 2nd Report, Session 2008-09, HL 18. He participates in several international research projects in the field of privacy protection and surveillance.[/expand]
Charles Raab offers a unique perspective to audiences seriously concerned about the politics of privacy and data protection in the global information age. He also provides an extremely insightful analysis of different dimensions of information privacy laws in different countries. His main general research interests are in public policy, governance and regulation, and more specifically in information policy (privacy protection and public access to information), privacy and surveillance, and information technology in democratic politics, government and commerce. He is able to offer supervision on the above topics and on related ones in the broader field of public policy and governance.[/expand]
