Martin Varsavsky is an Argentine/Spanish entrepreneur, who has founded seven successful companies in the past 20 years. Martin’s current venture is FON, founded in 2005, a community-empowered company dedicated to building the world’s largest global WiFi network, spreading the power of WiFi around the world, with one million hot spots by 2010. FON attracted Skype, eBay and Google as partners and quickly became the largest WiFi community in the world.

In 1984 he started his first business, Urban Capital Corporation, one of the early leaders of the loft movement in downtown Manhattan. This was soon followed in 1986 by Medicorp Services, a Canadian biotechnology company, a pioneer in AIDS and PSA testing. His third business, Viatel Ltd., his first venture into the world of telecom, was founded in 1990. Then in 1998 he started Jazztel Telecomunicaciones (Jazztel), Spain’s second largest publicly traded telecom operator and in 1999 he founded Ya.com, Spain’s third largest internet web site/DSL provider. He has written numerous articles on business and international relations that have been published in several international publications and he is the recipient of various honours.[/expand]
