Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics Sciences in 2011
Thomas J. Sargent is Professor of Economics at New York University and a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He earned his Nobel Prize in economics in 2011 for his research on cause and effect in the macro economy. He is one of the founders of the rational expectations model and the freshwater economics movement. He holds the W.R. Berkley Professorship of Economics and Business at New York University and is the author of many significant books and articles, with 2013 Nobel Laureate Lars Peter Hansen.

Professor Sargent earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1968. He has been a Professor of Economics at the University of Minnesota from 1975 to 1987, the David Rockefeller Professor at the University of Chicago from 1992 to 1998 and the Donald Lucas Professor of Economics at Stanford University from 1998 to 2002. He has been a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution since 1987. He won the Nemmers Prize in Economics in 1997.
