Barry Eichengreen speaker Dr. Barry Eichengreen is one of America’s foremost experts on the history and future prospects of the international monetary and financial system. He writes a regular monthly column for Project Syndicate. He is Professor of Economics and Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley, where he has taught since 1987.

Barry Eichengreen received his Ph.D. from Yale University. He has done research and published widely on the history and current operation of the international monetary and financial system. His commentary has appeared in the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and numerous other newspapers and periodicals. He is also the recipient of a doctor honoris causa from the American University in Paris. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (Cambridge, USA) and Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (London, England). In 1997-98 he was Senior Policy Advisor at the International Monetary Fund. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (class of 1997).[/expand]
