Hans-Werner Sinn SpeakerProf. Hans-Werner Sinn is one of the leading European economists of his generation, at the head of the European think-tank that serves as a bridge between academic research and practical policy. The author of 13 books and over 180 professional articles he has been CEO CESifo Inc. since 1999. In 2006 he became president of the International Institute of Public Finance. From 1997 to 2000 he headed the Verein für Sozialpolitik, the association of German-speaking economists.

After studying economics at the University of Münster and receiving his doctorate from the University of Mannheim, Hans-Werner Sinn was awarded the venia legendi, also from the University of Mannheim. Since 1984 he has been full professor in the faculty of economics at the University of Munich (LMU), first holding the chair for economics and insurance, and from 1994 the chair for economics and public finance. In 2005 he was one of the first German economists to sign the “Hamburger Appell”. In the RePEc database he was the German economist most frequently quoted in academic works in 2006. In a survey conducted by the Financial Times Deutschland of more than 550 German economic experts, he was one of only two professors in Germany.[/expand]
