Prof. Richard Dawkins
World-renowned Evolutionary Biologist, Bestselling Author & Former Oxford Biology Chairperson
Prof. Richard Dawkins is one of Britain’s best-known academics. He retired from Oxford University in 2008 and remains a writer and public figure. He’s best-known for the ideas laid out in his landmark book ‘The Selfish Gene’ and fleshed out in ‘The Extended Phenotype’: the rather radical notion that Darwinian selection happens not at the level of the individual, but at the level of our DNA. In recent years, his devastating critique of religion has made him a leading figure in the New Atheism.
“A master of scientific exposition and synthesis. When it comes to his own specialty, evolutionary biology, there is none better”
The New York Times
Richard Dawkins was educated at Oxford University and has taught zoology at the universities of California and Oxford. He came to prominence with his 1976 instant international bestseller ‘The Selfish Gene’, which popularised the gene-centred view of evolution and introduced the term meme. In 2006, he founded the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science (RDFRS), a non-profit organisation. He has been recognized many times as a science writer and intellectual.[/expand]
Leading British scientist and award-winning science writer, Richard Dawkins has helped steer evolutionary science into the 21st century, and his concept of the “meme” contextualized the spread of ideas in the information age. Listed by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2007, he offers the exchange of reason, science and critical thinking. He is a pugnacious debater and compelling speaker who has changed the way we think about evolution.[/expand]
